Wordly Wise 3000: Choosing the Right Level from K–12

Wordly Wise 3000 is a vocabulary program for students from Kindergarten through Grade 12. It provides structured vocabulary practice to support reading comprehension and help students understand words commonly found in literature, textbooks, and academic materials.

The program is used by schools, teachers, tutors, homeschool families, and parents. However, Wordly Wise 3000 is considered advanced for many students, so it is important to choose the level carefully.

Wordly Wise 3000 Levels

Grade Suggested book
Kindergarten Book K
Grade 1 Book 1
Grade 2 Book 2
Grade 3 Book 3
Grades 4 – 12 Books 4 – 12

The book number generally corresponds with the student’s grade.
For example, Book 5 is usually intended for Grade 5.

However, students do not always need to use the book matching their grade. English-language learners, students who find reading challenging, or students new to structured vocabulary study may benefit from beginning one level below.

Before ordering, review the book’s vocabulary list and sample pages. The right level should introduce challenging new words without making every lesson overwhelming.

What Is Inside the Student Book?

Features vary by level and edition, but lessons may include:

  • Vocabulary lists and definitions
  • Example sentences
  • Word-meaning and word-relationship exercises
  • Prefix, root, and suffix activities
  • Reading passages
  • Comprehension questions
  • Discussion and writing activities
  • Review exercises

Students encounter vocabulary in several different contexts, helping them understand and remember the words rather than simply memorize definitions.

Is the Answer Key Included?

No. The answer key is not included in the Student Book.

Answer keys and teacher resources are sold separately.

Important Information for Book K and Book 1

For the 4th Edition of Book K and Book 1, the Student Book is not designed to be implemented alone.

The following materials are required to teach the lessons as intended:

  • Teacher’s Resource Book
  • Concept Cards
  • Picture Cards

These required materials are sold separately. Parents, homeschool families, tutors, and teachers should include them when planning to use Book K or Book 1.

Is Wordly Wise Good for Homeschooling?

Yes. Wordly Wise 3000 can be used for homeschooling, tutoring, classroom instruction, or additional vocabulary practice.

Homeschool families should remember:

  • The Student Book does not include answers.
  • Teacher or answer resources may need to be purchased separately.
  • Book K and Book 1 require additional instructional materials.
  • The student’s reading ability may be more important than their official grade.

E.B.S. Recommendation

Start by checking the book corresponding with the student’s grade, but always review the vocabulary list before purchasing.

If most of the words are completely unfamiliar or the reading passages appear too difficult, consider choosing one level below. A slightly easier book completed consistently may be more beneficial than an advanced book that causes frustration.
